God is able to do great things for us—including delivering us from sexual sin. But we also have our part to play in our deliverance as well—responding to Him in repentance and faith. Failure to overcome is not the result of God’s indifference, but our failure to respond to His involvement in our lives rightly.At the end of our “Wholly Devoted” Conference, Zion Faith Homes minister, Dave Leopold, used the book of Ephesians to explain why we need to respond, and how we should respond.

Within Jesus’ words in John 15 is a foundational truth for the victorious Christian life: abide. 
Now, as beautiful as that word is, it’s actually not as easy as it sounds. As you’ll learn in today’s sermon, the path to abiding in Christ is quite difficult for our flesh nature. But as Ministry Outreach Director Patrick Hudson explains, the life you end up living makes the path completely worth it. 🛣️

We talk a lot about the problems and consequences of sin, but how do people actually get to the place where sin is ruining their lives? There is always a backstory. Understanding why people end up bound by habitual sin is an important aspect to finding victory because, at some level, coming into a lifestyle of freedom involves retracing one’s steps.

If you’ve been broken down by sexual sin, we have good news for you: God has provided the means for transformation. It’s in His word. But it’s not simply a matter of knowledge. As a matter of fact, there’s an increasing amount of church attendees who know the Bible really well, but also habitually indulge in sinful behavior.

Abraham and Lot shared the same roots, but their similarities end there. Abraham spent his years pressed into God, doing his utmost to find and obey the will of God. Lot was convinced that he could make his own decisions, do his own will and run his own life. Predictably, Abraham enjoyed blessing after blessing while Lot’s life was a downward spiral of one calamity after another.

Many people want help getting free from lust and sexual sin. However, not many people want freedom over a love of the world. The problem is, if our lives are full of worldliness, we are fueling the very desires that feed lust. That means freedom will be very difficult, if not impossible. The Bible repeatedly gives evidence of this. Look at Lot, Samson, King Solomon, the entire nation Israel…

The person struggling with sexual sin faces the same sort of challenges that Abraham faced: How to live for God in a culture that is full of unbelief, idolatry and an abundance of enticing temptations? The answer for him is the same for us: a living, robust faith in God. There is no question but that the level and strength of our faith is going to determine the level of freedom we walk in.
Saving, living faith is birthed through our response to the call from God, begins its journey with a complete break with the old life and lives in an awareness of the unseen realm. No devil from hell can reach a person’s heart who lives with this quality of faith.
